FORNEY, Texas — The City of Forney will soon begin issuing Requests for Quotes (RFQs) related to Proposition E Road Bond projects which were approved by voters in November 2022.

During the November 2022 election, Forney voters approved a bond proposition amounting to $52.7M for roads and infrastructure upgrades. It was the only proposition, of five on the ballot, approved by voters.

The roads and infrastructure referendum proposed road work on Lovers Lane between U.S. Highway 80 and Farm-to-Market(FM) 740, an extension to the Community Park Road, a grade separation project near downtown Forney, and the Monitor Boulevard extension to FM 548.

As of August 2023, the City Council has approved the initial work to begin on Lovers Ln and Community Park Road.

The construction on Lovers Ln will replace the asphalt with concrete, making the road more durable and safe to drive. The City will also add sidewalks and street lights to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists.

The Community Park Road extension project will extend the current Justice Center Drive through to Holly Leaf Trail and will help with access for entering and exiting during and after events. The result will be more vehicle space and less traffic congestion onto FM 548.

The City of Forney says they are preparing to launch their RFQs in the coming weeks. The new city attorney started working on September 5th, and they anticipate that within the next four weeks, the RFQs will be public for vendors to submit bids.

According to the information presented on Prop E, the City of Forney proposed grade separation along the train tracks downtown between East Main Street and East Broad Street. Grade separation is where a roadway is re-aligned over or under railroad tracks to enhance safety. No public update has been provided on the grade separation project.

The Monitor project will tie into Beamer Dr and Lakewood Trail subdivision. The extension to 548 has not broken ground as the city is in the beginning phase of the project and looking for consultants. City Officials say it could be another year before the projects get underway.
