FORNEY, Texas — Two Forney police officer were recognized for their exceptional service after assisting a woman in distress on the Gateway Bridge on October 26, 2023.
Forney Police Department Officer Bailey responded to a distress call about a woman seemingly about to jump off the bridge. With calm and concern, he approached the woman, simultaneously updating other officers on the situation.
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, off-duty Sergeant Markeith Pleasant joined Officer Bailey on the scene.
"Sgt. Pleasant engaged the female in conversation, subtly closing the distance and pulling her to safety," read a statement from the City of Forney.
In recognition of their bravery and dedication, Officer Bailey was awarded a meritorious service award and Sgt. Pleasant received a Lifesaving Award during the November 20 City Council meeting.
"Their heroic actions are sincerely appreciated!" stated the city.
