MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Association is seeking donations for one of its members, Mesquite Police Department officer Smythe, who fell asleep at the wheel early Sunday morning and struck a fire engine.
MESQUITE, Texas — The Mesquite Police Association is seeking donations for one of its members, Mesquite Police Department officer Smythe, who fell asleep at the wheel early Sunday morning and struck a fire engine.
Smythe was on his way to work at the time of the crash, according to the association.
"Officer Smythe unfortunately fell asleep at the wheel and collided with a firetruck," stated the association. "His car was totaled and the fire department had to use the jaws of life to cut him out of the vehicle. He is extremely lucky to have gotten out alive."
At last update on Sunday evening, Smythe remained in the ICU with multiple injuries to his neck, chest, and arm which would require surgery. Its unknown how long Smythe will remain in the ICU and hospitalized post surgery.
